How to Use This Site
- To plan your outdoor activities go to our
"What Do You Want To Do?"
section. You will find trip descriptions and maps, organized by activity
type, to help you figure out what to do and where to go. Some of it is on this site and the rest is on
other sites for which we provide links. If you know what part of the
state you are interested in, start with our
"Where Do You Want To Go" section
and click on a yellow marker in one of our 25 regions. This page and the
yellow markers contain links to our "region profile" pages which provide
an overview of public lands in a region and list books, maps, and websites
for that region.
- To find places to sleep in the boonies, go
to the "Where You Can Stay" section. There is
guidance there
on cabins, yurts, campgrounds, etc. (We do not provide info on places to stay
in towns.)
- To check the status of such things as snow
depths, river flows, avalanche danger, etc., go to the
"Current Conditions" section.
- To pitch in with ORIC or other outdoor
organizations, check out our Volunteering section.
The rest of the sections in the menu in the left column ought to be
self-explanatory.

ORIC wants to be your most important resource for help planning your next outdoor adventure.
We provide thorough information for Colorado as well as some information for surrounding states.
And we do it two ways: through this website and in person at an information
desk in the map department of the REI store in downtown Denver.
We are a not-for-profit partnership of eight federal, state and private organizations. Our
staff is one full-time manager, supplied by the US Forest Service, and a crew of
volunteers. For more information, see our
printable brochure.
Visit us at REI: 1416 Platte St.

Recent Updates to This Site
- We've added 17 trail listings to our
Estes Park Region Day Hiking Trails Index, for a total of 75, plus
plenty more references to descriptions of those trails in guidebooks and
maps. And the Estes Park Region
Profile page has been updated. Total trail listings on this site: 1,771. 5/17/13.
- Need a guidebook? Have a look at our expanded
"Book Resources" page.
It's organized by activity and by region. And it lists book stores. The
61 books listed are just a start on the hundreds out there, which we
will add as we discover them. 4/19/13.
- We have added a new "ORIC's
Favorite Spring Things to Do" page with tons of advice on what you
can do while the high country is still melting. 4/9/13.
-
Our Grand Junction Region had so many trails it hit a limitation in
Google Maps. So we have split off the southern half into a new
Montrose Region. 3/7/13.
